Tip from The Rookie: Even a five-year-old grandchild lights up like a Christmas tree when he gets a Happy Birthday serenade at the restaurant :-)

Tip from The Rookie: When offered a choice of making the bottle or changing the diaper by Granny, ALWAYS choose making the bottle. It’s embarrassing to get started with what you thought was just a wet diaper to find out it’s an especially nasty one and say to yourself, “Dude, how stupid can you be?” 

Grandchild #3 is in the eat, sleep, and sing stage which aligns well with The Rookie… it would be perfect if we didn’t have that diaper part :-)

Oldest grandson had his first soccer game recently, which was also The Rookie’s first 4-year-old soccer game. What a Hoot! Grandson was engaged in the game the whole time he played, didn’t stop to cry, and scored a goal, so expectations were greatly exceeded :-)

Oldest grandson is on his first team and The Rookie has mixed feelings about starting the organized sports cycle. It will be fun to watch them play, but the fun seems to never end… he came home from first soccer practice and started shooting hoops :-)

Numbers…

The Rookie now has three grandsons where we only had two children. A much more challenging numbers game has begun. More zone defense, less man-to-man :-)

Assembly desired…

The Rookie found that the time taken to make elaborate sandwiches for the grandchildren complete with mustard eyes and smile, ketchup nose, layered meat, cheese, and pickle was still worthwhile even though the sandwiches had to be disassembled for consumption. :-)
